Farmers training and outreach:
DNRC trains smallholder farmers and their families in drylands on agroforestry, agro ecology/ permaculture as well as Kamba culture regeneration on the following aspects: Traditional food, traditional Kamba music, traditional artifacts i.e traditional stools, traditional beehives e.t.c. All these activities are aimed at promoting community cohesion, empowerment, and shared learning. DNRC being a permaculture/ agro ecology site, it acts as a resources center both for the farmers, schools and other visiting groups for exchange learning. The now 900 farmers are in 22 groups which are geographically located. DNRC reaches these groups on their convenient day for the scheduled training. DNRC together with farmers organizes both annual and bi annual get together parties which brings all the farmers together to celebrate, share ideas and experience their culture by preparing and presenting the Kamba traditional foods, the Kamba traditional music, Kamba herbs e.t.c. The parties act as open learning days for all the farmers and other invited visitors. With this kind of commitment, the community fabric is strengthened with community understanding their problems and slowly starts developing their own solutions.
